Frequently Asked Questions

  • No, you don’t need a referral to start therapy.

If you’re an individual client and would like Medicare rebates, you’ll need a Mental Health Treatment Plan or Chronic Disease Management Plan from your GP, Psychiatrist or Paediatrician.

  • Standard appointments go for 50 minutes and sometimes clients request two appointments in a row (100 minutes) because stopping and starting can be disruptive. This can be especially helpful for relationship counselling, and when there is a lot coming up for clients.

Ideally your first three appointments are booked within two weeks of each other to ensure continuity during this assessment and planning phase.

Frequency after that depends on your needs - weekly, fortnightly, or less often. We can adjust as we go.

  • I provide in person and telehealth appointments from my practice in Pascoe Vale on Wednesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays. I provide flexible appointment times, including evenings.

  • My priority is to build trust and rapport, so you feel safe, understood, and confident moving forward. You will have space to ask questions, get to know my approach, and settle into the process at a pace that feels comfortable. Nothing will feel rushed or forced - sessions should have a natural, supportive flow.

You can expect a blend of structured, targeted questions combined with an intuitive, organic process. I am always guided by what you share, how you are presenting in the appointment, and what you want to achieve.

  • Broadly speaking, we begin with an assessment of your relationship, followed by some information gathering about how each of you operates individually. This includes exploring your backgrounds, how you were raised, the relationship models you grew up with, and your attachment styles.

Relationship counselling can enable honest conversations that may not be occurring outside of sessions. Exploring reasons for conflict and obstacles to conflict resolution are all part of the work and specific strategies can be helpful to support better communication.

I maintain neutrality so that all partners feel equally supported and no one feels judged or ganged up on.
